Carnosaur 2
BrotherhoodWolf

YEAR 2001 directed by christophe GANS

STARRING samuel le bihan, vincent cassel, monica bellucci

Qs: 10.  AR: SSSSSSSSSS

N       0:02:20.  An obviously terrified woman runs from a voracious beast and trips and falls a short distance down a rocky hill, doing a number to her face and left hand.  It gets worse when she tries to climb a rock to escape it and is instead beaten savagely against it until dead, then dragged away.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:06:10.  In the midst of a one-man beat-down in the rain, a guy gets thwacked across the jaws with a heavy stick, spitting bloody water.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:14:55.  Only briefly we get a look-see at a horrible mauling job done by the beast on a young thing, a very large chunk removed from her right side, organs visible.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:36:00.  A quick shot of wolf-gutting.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:49:32.  A frozen body is examined, an awful serious piece of flesh missing from the face, namely the entire right cheek and a good bit deeper too.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:07:17.  The semi-messy task of dressing a wolf is tended to, the necessary gutting and stuffing being shown.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:31:50.  In a lopsided battle, Mani chops off a man’s hand and throws it, and the knife it held, at another across the way.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:34:50.  Sadly, Mani is badly injured in a run-in with a mob-type situation and Fronsac has the disagreeable task of cleaning his body.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:37:50.  In a very raw concept, a man is hit directly in the forehead with a flaming arrow.  SR: SSSSS

N       2:00:08.  Time for an Indian-style scalping.  SR: SSSSS

CabinFever

YEAR 2002 directed by eli roth

STARRING rider strong, jordan ladd, james debello

Qs: 15.  AR: SSSSSSSSSS

N       Make no mistake, this is an excessively obscene film, but if you can get around the gross profusion of foul language, it’s a gore fan’s idea of a good time.

N       0:03:53.  Immediately after the opening credits, the mayhem begins.  A man brings home a kill, dangling the animal before his dog, expecting him to spring to his paws and get all excited.  Seeing him continuing to lay motionless, he sees that something is wrong.  Seeing and feeling blood, he lifts one of the dog’s front legs and opens the animal completely, like a suitcase, strings of gore stretching across the hole.  As if that weren’t enough, a spurt of blood fires into the man’s left eye.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:19:22.  After a needlessly profane scene when Bert arrives at the cabin, Paul starts to tell a graphic story about a killer who falls upon the crew of Brighton Bowl.  His first act, after gagging and thrashing the employees, is he ties them to chairs set in a circle and forces them all to watch as he goes around and beats their heads in with a ball-peen hammer, conspicuous amounts of blood and brains splattering into the hair surrounding the damage sites.  At 0:20:48, we see him bowling the organs and limbs of the victims, doing pretty well for just using hearts and legs.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:25:01.  The man who Bert accidentally shot arrives at the cabin door.  His face has started to break open in places and bleed down his body.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:26:33.  Seeing he’ll find no help at the cabin, the man jumps in their truck and attempts to make a getaway.  Unable to coordinate himself long enough, the man starts spitting up mouthfuls of blood all over the inside, splattering the windows with his disease-bearing fluids.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:47:24.  After lying down with Karen, Paul gets a very unpleasant surprise when, instead of simply running his fingers along the inside of her thigh, he discovers to his horror when he whisks back the sheet to confirm his suspicions that he’s actually been digging into her diseased flesh.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:56:15.  Karen, whom they’ve locked up in the shed to quarantine her, gets a visit by the rest of the crew who succeeded in starting the truck, gearing themselves up for a trip out.  When Paul opens the door, they all see Karen has bled all over from her sore-ridden legs.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:07:23.  Trying to throw his pursuers off the trail, Bert smears blood and some of his decaying flesh all over the side of a tree.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:08:08.  Sobbing deeply, knowing she’s going to die, Marcy takes a bath and starts to shave her legs.  The skin on her back has already started to break open and sore over, getting worse every time we see it.  As she runs the razor along her left leg and clears away the foam, every stroke reveals a new, deeper level of flesh decomposition.  As with most gore scenes in this site, part of the SR is attributed to the sound effects which are sometimes more nauseating than the visuals.  Here, they make the already sick scene sicker.  Realizing the damage has gone much deeper than she knew, she stands under the showerhead and proceeds to bleed rivers down her legs.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:09:33.  Chased by the bloodthirsty dog of Henry (the man they shot, beat and set on fire), Marcy attempts to duck into the shed where Karen was holed up.  Unfortunately, she didn’t make it.  Paul rushes back to the cabin to discover parts of her everywhere, strewn about the ground and hanging over tree stumps.  Making his way through Marcy to Karen’s shed, Paul opens the door and exposes her to the daylight.  There he discovers the dog had been eating her guts, dragging out some of her organs and chewing up her skin.  After blowing away the dog, Paul goes back to Karen’s shed.  Here we see what I think rates as the most gruesome sight in the film.  Karen’s condition has been worsening constantly, so we can know when we see what Paul sees, it won’t be pretty.  It isn’t: when he rolls her onto her back, he finds that her face has been eaten almost entirely away by the flesh virus, permanently exposing her teeth in an exceedingly morbid grin. The makeup job is so-so, but the idea gets across.  Knowing she’s past done for, Paul puts her out of her suffering by beating her head in eleven times (that we can see and/or hear) with a shovel.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:12:30.  The trio from the convenience store the group visited in the beginning comes calling at their cabin.  Paul has since dragged Bret inside, Bret informing him of the threat.  Sat up in a chair facing the door, holding a shotgun, Bret makes his last stand as one of the men, also carrying a shotgun, splatters his head like a tomato all over the opposite wall.  In almost the same instant, a hidden Paul emerges and smashes the man in the mouth with what I believe to be a fireplace shovel.  The man falls onto his back, spitting blood and teeth.  The gun goes off and blows a hole in the second man’s chest.  The third one, fumbling with the box he had been carrying the whole time, doesn’t last long either.  Paul stabs him solidly in the right ear with a screwdriver.  As with the shaving scene, the sickening sound effects make the head splatter just that much grosser.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:14:22.  Trying to find Jeff, warning him not to drink the water, Paul goes into a cave and comes upon the weed-bearing nut (who, incidentally, is the writer/director Eli Roth) with the dog, Dr. Mambo.  Much of the middle of his body is gone, trails of intestines strewn about.  For an extra shot of gross-out, worms wriggle in his right ear.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:15:40.  Hitting a deer in a wild-eyed drive for survival, Paul reaches for a handy weapon and splatters the deer all over his face when he unloads a round of shot into it.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:18:03.  Coming upon an underage drinking party attended by the useless Deputy Winston who was supposed to be stopping it, Paul faces off with him for a spell before wrestling with others of the soiree.  One of the more folksy types attempts to hit him in the head with his guitar, instead smashing into another of the folksy types who had been playing a harmonica.  The sudden blow rams the instrument down his throat and in what could very well be the most appalling display of blacker-than-night humor, the man coughs up mouthfuls of blood, squeaking the harmonica with every attempt to breathe.  Paul, having ducked the shot with the guitar seizes and throws the man up against the hood of a truck and vomits a throatful of blood all over his face.  I should probably add that by this point Paul’s own face is pretty well covered in blood and gore.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:25:39.  Jeff straggles back to the cabin, taking a short tour of the bloody slaughterhouse it had become.  Euphorically relieved that he made it, he bursts out of the front door in a joyous display of celebratory histrionics – and is unceremoniously gunned down, shot at least twenty times by a trio of officers previously informed of a “cult” that practiced “human sacrifices or something.”    SR: SSSSS

N       1:26:24.  Not gory, or really even bloody, the ending of this film is specifically mentioned because it’s one of the wickedest I’ve seen yet.  Two innocent children scoop up a barrel full of river water (which the deceased Paul has been bleeding into all night) for their lemonade stand that the entire town, including the sheriff and fellow policemen, partakes of.  In the background, a truck from Down Home Spring Water drives off toward right frame.  The grisly foregone conclusion of an ending is made all the more devilish by the folk rendition of “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.”  SR: SSSSS

Candyman

YEAR 1992 directed by bernard rose

STARRING virginia madsen, tony todd, xander berkeley

Qs: 7.  AR: SSSSSSSSSS

N       0:04:51.  Clara dares Billy to do the Candyman thing.  He goes only up to four, his bravado failing him there.  Clara finishes the fifth and while Billy drinks beer downstairs, the ceiling opens a little and pours her blood down through it.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:35:31.  As the boy recounts the story of the murder in the building Helen’s photographing, we see a flashback to the scene where an unconscionable act is perpetrated, namely the castration of a young boy, the unit dropped in a nearby toilet, blood everywhere.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:45:12.  This is the first shot of Candyman’s hook hand.  If it only stopped there…  Helen wakens in the next shot to find she’s covered in red stuff as is much of the room she’s in.  She dashes outside while Anne Marie screams herself silly.  Another pool of you know what is outside, a cleaver and the head of her dog within.  For reasons unknown she picks up the weapon and tracks down the hysterical woman.  Accusations and defensiveness lead to a catfight and then her hacking into Anne’s left arm, blood spurting.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:00:19.  It’s another bloody frame-up, this time the vic is her pal Bernadette, raked with gashes from one end to the other.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:10:30.  You don’t have to be Edgar Cayce to see this coming – doc asks how Helen can back herself up.  She says she can do it by calling him.  He dutifully appears…and drags his hook all the way up the doc’s back, blood spurting all over the place.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:22:45.  Things get apian when Helen actually goes to Candyman and finds her left hand covered in bees.  That’s only the start – Candyman opens his giant coat to reveal his bloody rib cage housing hundreds of little stingers, buzzing in and out of the legendary killer.  Things are bumped up a notch when bees come out of his mouth and start swarming positively all over her.  SR: SSSSSS

N       1:34:17.  Only a year after Terminator 2: Judgment Day and here Xander Berkeley is getting killed again, this time by his sweet ex, gutted from groin to gullet.  His bloody, opened body is sprawled out in their bathtub, to be found by his newest thing.  SR: SSSSS

CandymanII

YEAR 1995 directed by bill condon

STARRING tony todd, kelly rowan, timothy carhart

Qs: 7.  AR: SSSSSSSSSS

N       0:06:58.  Wait no longer – the killing starts now.  The “Cambridge scholar” with the proper air of contempt and pendantry gets his comeuppance from Candyman himself, indeed “eviscerated with hook while on book tour.”  At 0:11:14 we get extra shots while the crime scene is processed.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:38:03.  Paul gets ripped open by our tall, black friend, a bit of his gore landing on Annie’s face.  Speaking of, she scratches open his, creating a giant tear through which bees fly out en masse and chase her from the room.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:44:12.  Annie has a terrible vision of her mother getting her throat slit by Candyman.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:51:29.  Ethan tells Annie how he discovered her father’s body, run through and bloodied to no end like the rest of his happy victims.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:06:26.  Yet another kill.  I think it’s interesting to note that the captions on my television have a “splurch” thing, spelled exactly as such, whenever Candyman gores someone.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:19:41.  Candyman takes Annie on a flashback adventure to his ordeal, including when he was relieved of his hand.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:25:52.  When Annie shatters Caroline’s mirror, Candyman’s body responds in kind, flashing over like an early CG effect and then breaking apart before exploding.  SR: SSSSS

N       Some people might wonder why I’m so terse with these films, i.e. using few words to describe something, and it’s solely for the fact that, for one reason or another, I don’t think highly of the series, the mythology, the whole nine yards.  They’re not bad films, just not good ones.

CannibalApocalypse

YEAR 1980 directed by antonio margheriti

STARRING john saxon, elizabeth turner, giovanni lombardo radice

Qs: 5.  AR: SSSSSSSSSS

N       0:06:10.  Things start quick and unexpectedly when a burning woman during a military invasion crawls along, on fire, and is pulled into an underground pen of some kind where two men are being kept.  For a second or two I thought they were going to help her, appearing POWs themselves.  When they started eating her, those thoughts were fast put to rest.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:25:00.  Random gunshot victim.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:58:19.  Never let an amorous woman with a bewitching smile have her way with you – or she’ll bite the tongue out of your mouth and then beat your head in with a rock.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:05:24.  Ever filleted a man’s leg with a disc sander?  Gets rather messy I must say…  SR: SSSSS

N       1:22:23.  Maybe it’s because I never used one, but I have a hard time believing a shotgun could blow out a man’s guts totally in two shots from a fair enough distance as to be unlikely, furthermore to have done it in a near-perfect circular hole.  SR: SSSSS

N       I have no idea where the “Apocalypse” comes in, but a good film this wasn’t.  It wasn’t even fair, just sort of “here.”

CannibalFerox

Original, unedited cut

YEAR 1981 directed by umberto lenzi

STARRING giovanni lombardo radice, lorraine de selle, danilo mattei

Qs: 17.  AR: SSSSSSSSSS

N       0:19:15.  The muskrat the woman on the boat gives to Gloria to lure the snakes away so they attack it rather than them, does its job.  It is a very difficult scene to watch and I almost hate recounting it here because, unlike the rest of the site (save Cannibal Holocaust), this scene is real and depicts the actual killing of an animal by a giant snake, the reptile coiling itself around the horrified shrieking creature as the life is slowly squeezed from it, the poor thing screaming for mercy.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:20:58.  The group comes upon a native who was impaled with a giant spike ball trap, the severely sharp reed tips puncturing him in several places on his chest.  Rudy pulls the ball out of his body and closes his eyes, the girls having fits as bugs luxuriate in the blood.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:28:43.  Rudy comes upon a decomposing body in an ostensibly abandoned village.  Just a few feet over from that is another one, lashed to a tall post, the skin pulled away from the teeth, a giant grub writhing in the right eye socket.  He is completely emaciated and almost completely stripped of flesh and muscle, showing signs of his time in the elements.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:30:19.  Mike viciously stabs to death an animal that had fallen into a pit with Gloria.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:34:00.  An iguana kills a snake fed to it by a villager by biting it to death.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:39:21.  A villager lops the head off of a giant turtle, sawing its legs and tail off in turn, all while the stumps continue to twitch and jerk about.  They later cook the meat in the beast’s shell.  An extra point is added to the scene rating because this is really happening, it’s no stunt turtle – as in 0:19:15, the creature depicted is actually being killed.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:44:20.  Mike, high on cocaine, starts torturing the villagers, demanding of them their secret horde of emeralds.  He ties him up and slashes him alongside his neck as a threat, dragging another one before him and slicing his chest open with his machete.  The one he tied up he reaches up into with his knife and cuts out his eyeball, spearing it on the tip and showing it to him.  His last act (hidden) is the concealed lopping off of something very dear to the young man.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:54:14.  After Joe dies, the villagers take him outside and lay him in a bed of leaves.  One of the men stabs into his chest with a long spear and cuts him open from approximately the sternum to the navel.  He and another then tear open the cut further and begin dragging his organs out, the one fishing out his intestines, the other going after what might be a lung.  The intestines villager then digs out what I think is the heart and starts chewing on it before each of the three diners takes a different piece of Joe’s anatomy and walk away with it.  SR: SSSSS

N       0:58:15.  This is an adults-only scene in which a villager removes from Mike what he earlier removed from the one he tied up, except he goes further than Mike – he pops it in his mouth and eats it.  One point is added for the very idea of castrating a man and then consuming…it.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:07:00.  Rudy was as good as hidden before he cut his knee and tried to hide in piranha-loaded water.  It was just a matter of seconds before the carnivorous fish smelled his blood leaking into their habitat and came en masse to dine on him.  His thrashing and screaming led to his inevitable discovery and recapture, being taken to another village for the feast.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:10:45.  To inflict more damaging psychological misery on the girls, an unseen villager lowers Joe’s heart on a hook into their cell, the organ still dripping fresh blood.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:13:00.  A villager cuts open and guts an alligator, distributing the organs to the hungry members about him who immediately start tearing into them.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:18:22.  After re-capturing Mike, the villagers hold him down and cut off his hand.  SR: SSSSS

N       1:20:52.  A villager rams a hook up through Pat’s right breast, much red flowing out.  SR:
